GOLDPLEX GOLD - ToneX
20 ToneX captures of my Blankenship GoldPlex through its original Celestion G12 Alnico Golds. Vox-meets-Marshall tone and breakup. This amp only has a volume and tone knob — so its wide open, tight low end, and a glassy top end that cuts in a mix. Trained on ToneX V2 Extended so it delivers the most accurate, amp like tones possible.

This ToneX pack was captured from my Blankenship GoldPlex with it’s original Celestion G12 Alnico
Gold speakers. This amp is like a Vox meets Marshall in terms of tone and breakup. It only has a volume
knob and a tone knob, so its a very “wide open” amp. Because of this the low end is very tight and the
high end cuts. While this may seem limiting, this is the only amp I was told required no EQ when I used it
in a recording. Naturally, engineers will often cut low end on amps and sometimes boost top end to cut,
and this amp is already in that frequency range. The captures in this pack have been tested thoroughly and represent this amp with extreme accuracy. I captured the most relevant gain ranges for this amp as well as one additional high gain capture with the amp cranked and the top end boosted for clarity. The key points of focus were breakup balance, drive and compression characteristics across all of the capture options. The level of breakup/gain is represented by the number in the capture name: Clean-Edge (1), Edge of Breakup (2), Breakup (3), Driven (4), High Drive (5).
The gear I have chosen to use brings out maximum clarity in these captures. The focus was Dynamics,
Clarity, and Balance. With each pack you get the raw and studio-refined captures, as well as two options
of microphone preamp color:
20 captures:
KR GOLDPLEX GOLD A1 (2, 3, 4, 5) - NORMAL
KR GOLDPLEX GOLD A1 (2, 3, 4, 5) - REFINED
KR GOLDPLEX GOLD G1 (2, 3, 4, 5) - NORMAL
KR GOLDPLEX GOLD G1 (2, 3, 4, 5) - REFINED
GAIN OPTIONS
The amp gain options are represented by the number in the name, with the lowest being cleanest and the
highest being the dirtiest:
1 - CLEAN-EDGE
2 - EDGE OF BREAKUP
3 - BREAKUP
4 - DRIVEN
5 - HIGH DRIVE
KR CAPTURE PROCESSES
NORMAL
The Normal captures (e.g. KR AMPNAME 1 - NORMAL) deliver the raw sound and feel of the amp
without additional enhancement processes. Just Amp, Microphone, Preamp.
REFINED
The Refined captures utilize my process to deliver a clearer and more refined amp EQ. It is simply carving
out a little bit of Sub-Low end information and boosting some harmonic top end content to help the
capture cut and be clear. This is a capture I would recommend to someone who needs help cleaning up
their low end and needs a little clarity. If you have a warm setup this is ideal.
PREAMP “A” (A1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Preamp A is referring to the API Microphone preamp option I used. This preamp choice is the “clearest”
option. It has slightly beefier low mids, smooth mid range, a rounded and clear top end, and saturation.
This preamp is also the most dynamic of the two, meaning when you dig in, your guitar punches back out
at you.
PREAMP “G” (G1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Preamp G is referring to the Golden Age Microphone preamp option I used. This will be the most familiar
to previous captures you have experienced from me. The top end is a hint warmer, and because of this
the amp saturation is not as intense. So this will give a slightly smoother experience. The low end is
slightly tighter in a different way than the API. And the Dynamics are ever so slightly less broad. This can
be helpful for a tighter sound.
HOW TO IMPORT CAPTURES
STEP 1 - Plug in your ToneX pedal with the correct USB cable from your computer. Use TONEX Editor
software. In the top left of the window, select "Librarian" and on the right half of the screen you will see a
list of amp options.
STEP 2 - Drag and drop your purchased and downloaded captures from us in to the right half of the
screen on top of the list of amp options and the amp capture will appear highlighted.
STEP 3 - Drag the highlighted amp capture from the right side, to the left half of the screen in to your
desired location on your ToneX pedal. And the amp capture is now in your ToneX.
STEP 4 (optional) - Select the editor tab in the top left of the ToneX Editor window. From here you can
tweak and change any of EQ settings actively on the pedal from the editor software. Additionally from this
page, in the top right of the screen you will see a COG WHEEL which are the global settings for this
specific ToneX that is plugged in. You will start in the "Volume" tab where you can adjust your Input trim.
This is a very easy and accurate way to adjust this, especially if you are using the small ToneX Ones
where you cannot see a menu on the face of the pedal.
INPUT TRIM
Input trim is recommended to start at 0. In general the most usable input trim range we have found is
between -2 to +2. This range should accomplish most of what you need in terms of a strong starting point
with these captures. Use -2 if your capture feels too aggressive. Use 0 or +2 the capture you are using
doesn’t feel aggressive enough. You can of course go higher or lower than that depending on your needs. In general input trim is recommended to be set to the point where you have enough strong signal, and are
not clipping the pedal’s input. I have found this range to be around what is listed above, depending on
the output of your guitar.
TONEX EQ
All EQ points at 5 is where the capture is going to start. This is where the amp was set by me when I
captured it. Feel free to adjust the EQ to your liking on the pedal, and if you ever need to restart, set all
EQ points to 5 and you will be back to neutral.
All of my captures come with the EQ settings set to stock settings. I made no adjustments to them, only to
the amp itself in the capture process. So the EQ will be set to POST as a stock setting. Which is generally
my preferred location for EQ to be set. When you set it to PRE it can sound really good, but can overdrive
the amp quicker since you are now pushing those EQ changes in to the front end of the capture.
OTHER TONEX SETTINGS
By default I do not use the Noise Gate or the Compressor on the ToneX. Feel free to experiment with
them for creative purposes, but in general I leave them off.
KENYON'S GO-TO SETTINGS
• Input Trim - 0
• Tone Model - A (API) - Gain 1 - NORMAL
• Model Volume - 5
• Global Volume - 5 (This can be adjusted depending if front of house needs more volume, but with the
right DI, 5 is plenty of volume)
• All EQ settings at 5
